The internal geriatric wards in the Shmuel Harofe Hospital provide medical and nursing care treatment of a high standard. A warm approach and professional treatment is provided to every patient and his family. Patients in the ward suffering from a range of internal illnesses and chronic illnesses that are characteristic of the elderly and which restrict their functioning, such as: falls, deterioration in functional and mental condition, a stroke. The patients receive diagnostic services and treatment by a skilled and experienced multi-professional staff, which is assisted by advanced imaging and laboratory services. |
The object is to heal the patients and return them to maximum functioning and also to improve their quality of life.
The wards are recognized for the courses for medical students and the hospital is affiliated to the Sackler Medical School of Tel Aviv University.
The hospital assimilates classes of students of medicine and nursing, annually.
Academic activity and research
The medical staffs in the wards and departments are engaged in a range of research work that is connected with serious and chronic illnesses, suffered by elderly persons, with such research being published in the professional medical press.
Duration of hospitalization
A treatment program is prepared for every patient and a forecast as to discharge is made at the stage of his admission. Doctors' visits occur on every working day and are made by a doctor and a nurse. The head of department or a senior physician accompanies the visit. A skilled multi-professional staff provides the patient and his family with medical treatments, nursing care and rehabilitation treatment which includes advice, encouragement and emotional support. The staff makes contact with the parties who provide the various services in the community. All this is in order to increase the prospects of the patient returning home. The patients receive rehabilitation treatment as decided by the medical staff and nutritional consultant. A social worker accompanies the patient during the hospitalization process.
At the termination of hospitalization, the patient is discharged home from the ward or to within the hospital in order to continue chronic-related and rehabilitation-related treatment, and all this in coordination with and participation of the family.
The wards
There are 36 beds in the wards. There are up to 3 beds per room, toilet facilities and adjacent showers. There is a dining room in the ward with a corner for the seating of families, the external courtyard of the ward with a covered garden for patients and families.
The ward provides its services for those insured by all the Sick Funds.
